A range of products are available to assist us in preventing pollutants from entering our waterways. Areas of concern which affect stormwater runoff are: Sediment control; Correct Drainage; Pollution control.
DRAINAGE
Drainage is an intergal part of any development. Specific drainage systems are available to channel water away from structures reducing the risk of failure. From standard subsoil, through to earth and block walls, through to podium drainage.
ROCK MATTRESSES
Wire baskets which form into a mattress like structure and filled with rock. The baskets encase and prevent the rock from displacing. Primarily used in stabilizing embankments and lining of open drains, drop structures and bridge abutments where you have high velocity flows. Mattresses are manufactured from galvanized wire to Main Road Specifications. A PVC coating is also available.
ROCK MATTRESSES
Rock Gabions are wire cages formed into a box structure filled primarily filled with rock. When joined, they can be assembled to create many shapes. Primarily used as wall structures to stabilize embankments, drop structures and bridge abutments to dissipate water flows and various landscape features. Vegetating gabions is encouraged to increase stability by root growth through the mesh. Usually combined with Rock Mattresses to produce total protection. We call this “hard/permanent armour”, a permanent solution. Manufactured from galvanized wire to main road specifications. A PVC coating is also available for harsh environments (coastal and mining applications)
GEOTEXTILES / GEOSYNTHETICS
There are various types of Geotextiles including nonwoven, woven, high strength and composite all of which perform various functions within different applications.
Primary functions are filtration, separation and reinforcement. High quality MRS11.27 Strength Class Geotextile is commonly used in many civil engineering applications.
We also provide 50m Handirolls in 0.60m, 1m, 1.2m and 2m Lengths
SILT CONTROL DEVICES
Sediment or Silt Control devices are designed to reduce sediment runn-off from construction sites. Sediment, left unchecked, can clog and pollute native waterways and damage natural areas. Controlling run-off, an increasing environmental concern, is advantageous to owners, contractors and engineers who face the economic costs associated with site sediment loss.
A range of systems are available to lessen the impact of erosion on both the land and waterways:
- Siltsocks (inlet protection systems)
- Silt Fence
- Silt Bags
- Filter Bags
- Sand Bags
DEWATERING FILTERATION BAGS – SMALL
This relatively new technique of sediment control is very useful in meeting sediment control requirements for construction sites. Small dewatering applications can sometimes be required on even small construction sites. Filter Bags are manufactured from a heavy nonwoven goetextile specifically for this purpose. Muddy, sediment laden water is pumped from the site and discharge into a “filter bag” where almost all suspended sediments are contained. The clean water then discharges through the walls of the bag. All bags have a neck for pump connection and eyelets to anchor if necessary.
EROSION CONTROL BLANKETS
The primary function of an Erosion Control structure is to control temporary erosion (caused by precipitation and run off) until vegetation is established. A secondary function is to promote germination of the seed by maintaining moisture and temperature, which is critical for seed germination. With the ability to enhance water filtration whilst protecting topsoil, Jute mats is the simplest, safest and most cost effective method of promoting new growth on slopes and embankments. Designed for Slope Protection, Drainage Swales, Mulch Protection, Dune Conservation and Grass Spillways
TURF REINFORCEMENT MAT (TRMs)
The primary function of a TRM is to provide permanent (root or stem) reinforcement for the mature vegetation during higher hydraulic flow events where velocities and sheer stresses exceed the limits of mature, natural vegetation. A secondary and more temporary function is to collect sediment during the hydraulic flows prior to and while vegetation is being established. The TRM performance increases as the vegetation becomes established and the root structure is entangled within the synthetic mat.
